That Vague Itinerary In Full

Our booked flights are the bits in bold, and even these are changeable. But this should give an idea of our destinations and timescales.

Sunday 28 September 2008 - London (UK) to Toronto (Canada)

We have approximately two weeks in Canada and the USA, so we plan to visit Chris's family as well as being city tourists. Our last stop in civilisation will be NYC …

Friday 10 October 2008 - New York (USA) to Guatemala City (Guatemala)

We have about two months to travel south from Guatemala to Costa Rica, which will mainly be by bus. We're hoping to meet up with Cathy and Bill in Guatemala and see some sights with them as well as checking out their new boat. I'm hoping to take a Spanish course along the way - I passed my evening class exam with flying colours and so I already have a real qualification, OCR Spanish breakthrough level. This means I am fully equipped to describe my family and hobbies but no use at booking hotel rooms or summoning doctors. We have definite plans to learn to scuba dive in Honduras, and vague plans for surfing and turtle-spotting in Costa Rica.

Saturday 29 November 2008 - San Jose (Costa Rica) to Quito (Ecuador)

Here's hoping there's no flight delays, as we're going straight to the Galapagos islands for a week-long boat tour (this is like Mecca for me). Once Chris has finished taking 948157347 photos of the islands, we're heading down to Peru for a three-week tour which takes us to Bolivia, via the Inca Trail. From there we have a few more weeks to make our way to Chile - that's a lot of long bus-rides.

Sunday 25 January 2009 - Santiago (Chile) to Sydney (Australia)

We actually arrive on the 27th due to the international date line or something. We have three days in Australia, and hopefully will be able to meet up with my Dad and offload all the ponchos we've accumulated along the way. By the way, we don't have any family members to meet up with in SE Asia or India yet - please get your tickets and tell us where to meet you.

Friday 30 January 2009 - Sydney (Australia) to Bangkok (Thailand)

One month in South East Asia. By this point we have almost no plans other than doing a Thai cooking class and eventually making our way through peninsular Malaysia to Singapore. It depends whether we're sick of jungles, whether we want more scuba diving, or more temples, or more lying around the beach drinking cocktails from a coconut …

Saturday 28 February 2009 - Singapore to Delhi (India)

Ditto, pretty much. We've got a month. We've got a vague idea about going to Nepal. Or not.

Friday 27 March 2009 - Delhi (India) to London (UK)

Everyone admires our tans. We bore them senseless with our tales of travelling. Chris goes back to work. With any luck, I will have a lovely new fellowship in London and we can save up lots more money to do it all over again.
